Movie Talk: Night Walk (2000)

Night Walk is an interesting bit of gay porn history, and by some is considered a classic. It is co-directed by Gino Colbert and straight porn director Michael Ninn. Using Ninn's heavily stylized technique the two directors set out tell the story of a young man's sexual awakening through his sexually charged dreams. This was a movie that had the full weight of VCA (under their HIS Video label) behind it, and they for sure put some time and money into making this one. Ninn was riding high at this point off of the popular Sex and Latex, with both films being very well received by critics and the public alike. With Night Walk ,   Ninn attempted to bring that same success to the world of gay porn.  I picked Night Walk  specifically because of Michael Ninn's involvement. He was a major force in the straight porn industry in the 90's and early 2000's, with his movies mixing striking visuals, hardcore sex and well done scores. His straight film Sacred Sin,  that he did und...

Movie Talk: Nymph Fever 5 (2001)

Here we are, in the land of Legend and Jerome Tanner. From the man who gave us Trailer Trash Nurses we have Nymph Fever 5. I have no idea why I started with this film in the series, but either way this movie is a riot.  Now, I have to ask the question that I always need to ask. Does Nymph Fever 5 work as a movie. I can't believe I'm saying this, but yes, it kind of does. I mean, this is 100% smut, but it is also a very funny play up of old school B-movies, and shows like The X-Files . While this is not something where you could take out the sex and still have a functional film, it is something that you could watch without hitting the fast forward button and still have a good time during the entire duration.  The general plot is that the Nymph Virus is spreading and two FBI agents played by Gwen Summers and Nick Manning are on the case. The virus can revive the dead, and turn whoever is infected into a sex crazed nympho. Now the infected are starting to form Carnal Cults, and t...

Movie Talk: Private Obsession (1995)

Private Obsession is an odd one. While this was sold as a late night erotic thriller, the actual plot and execution are not at all what was expected at the time. While the film could only push so far, it does go much darker than most films of this type did at the time.  The final film directed by B-movie legend Lee Frost, Private Obsession  follows super model Emanuelle Griffith (Shannon Whirry) after she is kidnapped by rich incel Richard Tate (Michael Christian). Emanuelle is an outspoken feminist, and Richard is dead set on breaking her and making her into his ideal "wife". Will Emanuelle be able to stay strong while in captivity, or will she bend to Richard's will?  Out of the gate we have a plot that 90% of the erotic thrillers being released at the time wouldn't touch. There is very little here that is "erotic". Most of the nudity is because Richard is ripping off or removing Emanuelle's clothes as a form of punishment. There is actually very littl...

Movie Talk: Score (1973)

If I am going to talk about dirty movies I have to start with  Score .  Directed by Radley Metzger and based off of the  off-Broadway stage play by Jerry Douglas,  Score  is a unique film that focuses on a little bit of everything as far as sexuality goes. It is also one of my all time favorite films. I have seen it probably fifteen times, and I love it just as much every time I watch it. Never have I seen a movie celebrate sexual fluidity the way  Score  does since. Well, maybe  Shortbus , but that movie is for a different blog post.  The basic story is that you have Elvira (Claire Wilbur) and Jack (Gerald Grant), a married couple who love to swing any which way the wind blows. Men, women, they don't care. For them it is more about the game of seduction. They have their sites set on young, naive Betsy (Lynn Lowery) and Eddie (Casey Donovan). The game is simple. Elvira must seduce Betsy, and Jack must seduce Eddie. Whoever succeeds first befo...

Being Realistic & A Little About Me

While I love a good dirty movie, I also realistically understand that these movies are not all made to be treated as film. At least, not as cinematic masterpieces. Mostly, this blog is for me to have some fun and explore dirty movies in a way that I don't see them get explored often.  I actually have a small history with adult films. The R. Rose pen name actually comes from it! When I was in college, back in the early 2000's, I got the opportunity to write a couple of X-rated features that actually got produced. I got an inside look into what creatively went into creating these films. What I learned is that there are people who take these movies seriously. They are trying to make something good, that the audience will enjoy, and they are always focused on perfecting their craft to make the best product possible.  It sounds weird saying that, but it is 100% what I felt when working with the industry professionals. While my time in the adult film industry was very short, it is s...
