Movie Talk: Agent Aika (1997)

Agent Aika is the anime equivalent of an Andy Sidaris movie. A lot of beautiful people in very little clothing trapped in an overly convoluted action plot. This one also throws in a heavy dose of science fiction, as the story eventually moves into outer space. No other anime series, at least as far as I have seen, manages to balance action, sleaze, camp and plot as well as Agent Aika  does. There are a couple of different series following the character, but the original run is still my favorite.  If you mention this show to any anime fan of a certain age there are two words that will come to mind. Panty shots. Almost every single frame of this show is animated in a way to make sure that we are getting a birds eye view up the skirts of the largely female cast. There is plenty of nudity as well, but the name of the game here is ladies underwear, so be ready. Otherwise, this show doesn't push too hard outside of being a cheeky. There is some implied naughtiness, but genera...

Midnight Madness: Camp Blood 3-5

Going to end this week of sexy slashers with something much less sexy in my first Midnight Madness post. These are for movies that are kind of off topic for the blog, but still have that Up All Night, found it at the video store bargin bin feel. So, I give you Camp Blood 3-5. These movies are all over free streaming sites, and new films get released regularly still, so I thought I would give them a look. The general gist of all these movies is that people camp out at Camp Blood and a someone in a mask kills them. There is some backstory, but I am going to be honest, it made no sense to me. Nor does it have to. Starting with part 3, Camp Blood: First Slaughter  we are introduced to Camp Blackwood, which is really just a small wooded trail. People keep deciding to camp out there, and they keep getting murdered. A group of college students attempt to figure out if the legends are real. They do this even after seeing video footage of people being killed there.  This is probably th...

The Guilt of Guilty Pleasures

My biggest problem I have right now now is how to approach this subject. I am a life long horror and exploitation fan. I have a pretty thick skin when it comes to films, and things that would make a lot of people nope out don't even phase me. Yes, I have limits in what I will subject myself too. There certain kinds of films, and themes, that are just a no go for me. While many have praised A Serbian Film  for its raw and intense political messaging, and shocking no-holds barred approach to its material, I personally don't feel like I need, or really want, to subject myself to the content of the film. I will avoid films because of people who are in them because of things they have done off camera. So, I do understand having hard "nopes" when it comes to films.  The thing that got me thinking about this subject was the movie Girlhouse . Now, I am a hardcore slasher fan. I enjoyed the heck out of it. The mix of sexuality and violence was nothing new, or shocking to me. D...

Movie Talk: Girlhouse (2014)

"Hey boys, you wanna see my spreadsheet?" Staying on theme with the "sexy" slashers, today we are diving into a movie I know very little about, the 2014 mainstream slasher, Girlhouse.  I will say, the plot of this one does remind of the much lower budget WatchUsDie.com from 2001. The movie centers around a killer going after a house full of cam models. This was an interesting watch for me because I have no idea how my horror loving ass missed this movie back when it first came out. Not gonna lie, this one started off way more disturbing than I was expecting, with some good old violence against children. We see a young boy being humiliated by two girls. He theb promptly murders one of them in surprisingly bloody fashion. Was not expecting that. Obviously it sets the tone as pitch dark, although the tone is not overly serious the entire time. Thank God for that. Our main character is Kylie, a young woman desperate for cash. She decides that her best bet is to join Gir...

Movie Talk: Lovers Lane (Wicked Pictures, 2005)

Not to be confused with the mainstream slasher of the same name, Brad Armstrong's Lovers Lane  is a pretty straight forward take on an adults only slasher film. Starring Wicked star Devinn Lane, this often forgotten film is usually overshadowed by Wicked's other slasher, the comedy  Camp Cuddly Pines Power Tool Massacre. Unlike Cuddly Pines, this one plays it as serious as possible, which makes for an interesting struggle as the film tries to balance the adult material with the more serious and violent subject matter.  Now, Brad Armstrong was Wicked's answer to Paul Thomas. He was their big name director, who handled their larger budgeted features. Lovers Lane  actually feels oddly small for him, even though this film has insane production design and value. Outside of the adult scenes this film feels like a mainstream film. The scope of the film is just smaller than what you would expect from Armstrong. He did features like Space Nuts and Fallen.  Still, he brin...

Movie Talk: Slay Away Camp (2025)

"I just saw the sheriff making out with the psycho pumpkin!" I knew it would only be a matter of time before Men.com showed up on the blog. When I saw the cover for Slay Away Camp  I had to check it out. I actually have a couple of spicy slashers in my cue, and I thought this seemed like as good a place as any to start.  So, having seen a couple XXX slashers in my day, I can tell you that they have to play a very odd balancing act when it comes to blending the erotic elements with the more... stabby elements. Violence in adult films, even when separate from the sexual activity, can be a touchy subject. Some, like Wicked's Lovers Lane  play it straight and aim to replicate on actual slasher movie. Others, like Slay Away Camp , lean into the camp nature of the films and aim for humor over horror. Vivid Men took the same approach for their Scream parody Moan. The humor allows the filmmakers to downplay the expected violence, and play it a little safer.  The humor here w...

Movie Talk: The House on Hooter Hill (2007)

This was not the movie I had intended to post about, but because of issues with a DVD getting delayed I had to adjust my plan, and decided to end the week with a little Jim Wynorski. From the man who gave us Chopping Mall  we have House on Hooter Hill, a movie about boobs. Where every woman has lower back pain, and everyone makes love like Elizabeth Berkley in the pool scene in Showgirls .  The general plot is that a wealthy woman named Tiffany murdered, and her friends and family are called to her house for the reading of the will. Her will is a riddle. Solve it, and you're rich. Lose, and all her money goes to a rescue for Bisexual Cats.  Jim Wynorski has created some amazingly good B-movies in his day. He has also created some real crap. This falls right in the middle. It knows what it is, gives you as much bang for your buck as possible, and moves along. Nothing is take seriously, and a goofy sense of humor runs through everything... When the characters aren't shtoopi...

Movie Talk: Hex Education (2008)

Originally released as Voodoo Dollz , this Fred Olen Ray horror comedy has been trimmed down and released as Hex Education  on a Full Moon's streaming platform. This one is an odd duck, as it was originally a dirty movie, with several softcore sex scenes sprinkled through out the film. Now, the movie just barely reaches an R rating with a little brief nudity, and a lot of implied love making. Anyone who would want to see the movie in its original form better better start hunting, as the DVD is not easy to find. I found 2 listings on eBay, with the cheapest starting at $50. So, if this is no longer really a dirty movie, then why cover it on the blog? This is what is actually happening to a lot of Fred Olen Ray's softcore output from the 2000's.  They are being trimmed down into essentially shorts, and being released on platforms like Prime and even Tubi. The question then is, is it worth going out to try and find the original release? Well...  The basic plot of the movie i...

Movie Talk: Haunting Desires (2004)

From one of the B-movie masters, Fred Olen Ray, I bring to you the late night staple  Haunting Desires . Featuring a cast of familiar faces including Beverly Lynne, John Richardson and Evan Stone  Haunting Desires  has the potential to be a late night classic. Sadly, lazy pacing drags this movie down, making it one that I would almost recommend people skip.  The basic plot is that there is a sex club called The Underworld... or The Underground... the script is never totally sure. From the outside it looks like a sleazy little strip club, but once you dig a little deeper it turns out to be something much more dangerous. The Under... The club is the home to a den of vampires who are preying on the clientele. Will spunk reporter Jill and gruff Detective Trout be able to stop them? Will you care?  Fred Olen Ray knows how to make a fun B-movie. He brought us  Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers  for crying out loud! Here, though, he seems to just be going thro...

The Shape of Things

As I dedicate more time and effort into Midnight Kiss I am starting to wonder how I want to shape this blog. Obviously I cover dirty movies, but now I'm starting to understand what the focus should be.  Obviously my reader base is pretty small right now, and I can't read too much into anything, but I am curious what can draw people in. A good example is looking at the Hentai Havoc post. Even by my small metrics that post tanked hard. Obviously, that is something that my readers are not interested in. At least not right now. So future Hentai Havoc posts are probably not going to happen. Normal hardcore features seem to do well. The only exception was  Where the Boys Aren't 16 . I'm not even sure why that one just didn't hit as well, but it had fewer reads than everything else. Kind of sad, because I really found that movie very pretty, and had a lot of fun talking about it. Maybe my audience just isn't feeling the sapphic side of things currently. Flip side, m/m ...
